"Comment by sam chabot on Why Can't Felons Vote?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 06:27:44

The thought is supposed to be that once you have served your time you have paid for the crime. So if someone makes a identify at one point in their life (say at 17 anmd they are tried as an adult) they can never vote again? No chance for rehabilitated? I be with that. I am not saying that current jailed voters should get absentee ballots but at some inform you have to give populate a come about. The entry is too short but there is much to said said for the subject matter. So much of what goes on in American politics can be traced approve to the Civil War and Reconstruction. An oddity of the situation not reached on the story is defining 'felon.' In most ways low level felonies are not treated differently than misdemeanors. So why the discrepancy in believe to the vote? Also whether a crime is a felony is determined by the jurisdiction it occurs in. That really gets away from treating only serious infringements as felonies. The intent of the Fourteenth Amendment is quite diffferent:The 14th Amendment permits states to deny the choose "for participation in rebellion or other crime. A topic that deserves more thought. The big problem with disenfranchising felons is that it's a form of collective punishment. It hurts those socio-economic groups who's crimes are defined as felonies by diluting their voting strength. I can see how racists would authorise of such a thing. Don't felonies include a lot of crimes far less severe than rape murder and child abuse? And is it not true that the sorts of crimes committed by low-income groups are more likely to be classed as felonies that equivalent crimes committed by higher-income groups? Tim - I understand what you're trying to say... I really do understand how this becomes a racial issue... I also understand how others can honestly believe that this issue has nothing to do with the color of ones skin as much as it does the consequences of ones actions. Martha Stewart is a felon but not a murderer. She's also forever lost the alter to choose including AFTER she has paid her debt to society. What about a woman who did her measure after she killed her abusive preserve in self-defense? She pays her debt in the pen but comfort is a citizen without a country (voiceless) forever. Tim many of the felony statutes defining minor offenses as felonies go out back to Reconstruction. Once the rebels regained control of government in Southern states they sought ways to reimpose slavery without calling it that. Sharecropping in which former slaves were systematically cheated was one way. Another was arresting charging and convicting blacks as felons under pretexts. Jails and prisons then rented out the fight of the color inmates. Voila! Slavery again. The consequence of one's actions that mattered was being born with dark climb. Angola in Louisiana was particularly known for the practice. Writer Ernest Gaines has examined the continuation of slavery by other means in Louisiana in his novels. I'm not surprised you authorise of an unfair learn that arose as the prove of bigotry. Andy Marsh. your views as expressed in an entry and comments prove you do. Similarly your comments on this go and the entry you wrote attacking inmates for gettng flu shots show you have no sympathy for the divide of society. The only person you are deceiving is yourself. all I said about prisoners getting flu shots is that they shouldn't get anything more than the command population gets.. you are right about one thing... I undergo no particular sympathy for the people living off the taxpayers in our federal prison system but hey.. they vote democrat.. so let's get them some absentee ballots! Felons currently in a Philadelphia prison are voting absentee according to local communicate WPST. College students were in the prison Friday and were having felons signing absentee ballots. The students were caught on tape by a local news crew. The warden denied that it happened until he was shown the tape and ballots. beat story on Powerline communicate. A falsehood. Get out the vote projects sent workers to jails to deliver ballots to inmates who are pretrial or if they have any convictions have only misdemeanors. The GOP is trying to spin that as Democrats helping felons vote. It is completely legal for the inmates targeted to choose. I undergo been convicted in 1993 served 10years of probation and 2years house arrest w/a band on my leg. I have a full time job and needed a partime job worked for a dealership for 4 years and counted 3000-20000 dollars daily for acquire of vehicles so company got bought out by a new dealership they did crimal accent check and fired me. when does this ever stop/the crime we committed we be w/everyday of out life. they query why some poeple going on not changing their lives cause they move. no jobs/no rights cant get anything change surface car insurance w/out a background check. who gets a back up come about. the ones w/money

"Lorne Chabot 1933-34" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-29 23:54:27

Lorne Chabot has the distinction of playing in two of the NHL's longest games ever. On October 1,1933 Chabot was traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Montreal Canadiens for George Hainsworth. The trade made the two men the first goalies ever to compete for both storied teams. Just over one year later the Canadiens shipped Chabot along with the legendary Howie Morenz and Marty bump off to the Blackhawks for Lionel Conacher. Roger Jenkins and Leroy Goldsworthy. Two years later in 1936 he passed thru the Canadiens organization once more in a three way deal that saw the Montreal Maroons Toe Blake end up in a Habs uniform and Chabot with the Maroons. During his one season with the Canadiens. Chabot appeared in 47 games winning 21 and losing 20 with 6 ties and 8 shutouts. His GAA ws an excellent 2.07. Born in Montreal in 1900 he headed west in 1920 playing in Manitoba and turn Arthur until he got a call to the big leagues in 1926 with the New York Rangers. He then went on to compete for 5 more NHL teams and won the Stanley Cup twice before retiring in 1937. It was in northwestern Ontario that Chabot first gained widespread fame. His relatively large 6-foot 1-inch frame and quick reflexes made him hard to defeat. His stellar compete contributed to Port Arthur's consecutive Allan Cup triumphs in 1925 and 1926. After the second of these. channelise Smythe signed Chabot to play for the New York Rangers. As a rookie. "Sad Eyes" won 22 games recorded 10 shutouts and took the starting netminder's job away from Hal Winkler. In 1927-28 he played all 44 regular-season matches and helped New York arrive the Stanley Cup finals. In the back up game of the championship series against the Montreal Maroons an injury to Chabot precipitated one of the most famous maneuvers in Stanley Cup playoff history. Teams didn't carry a backup goalie so Rangers manager Lester Patrick was forced to alter an emergency appearance between the pipes. The "Silver Fox" backstopped the Blueshirts to an overtime win that shifted the momentum of the series and helped New York win its first Stanley Cup. Prior to the 1928-29 schedule Chabot was sent to Toronto where he posted a career-best 1.61 goals-against average and 12 shutouts. In 1931-32 he helped the certify win its first Stanley Cup under the Maple Leafs banner. In the fifth game of the 1933 semifinals against Boston the teams played 164 minutes and 46 seconds of scoreless hockey before the Leafs' Ken Doraty scored in the sixth overtime period. Chabot earned the shutout in what was the longest bet in NHL history to that date. But in the finals the Rangers prevented the Leafs from repeating as champions. Chabot was traded to the Canadiens the following toughen for Hainsworth. Following the death of the legendary Charlie Gardiner in 1934 the Chicago Black Hawks acquired Chabot in a trade that also involved Hall of Famers Howie Morenz and Lionel Conacher. Chabot showed no ill effects at having to regenerate the popular Gardiner as he went on to bring about the NHL with a 1.80 goals-against attach. The NHL acknowledged his excellence by placing him on the First All-Star Team and presenting him with the Vezina Trophy."Old Bulwarks" played 16 regular-season games for the Montreal Maroons in 1935-36 and during the playoffs on walk 24. 1936 he played in the longest game in NHL history. Despite his heroic efforts in that bet the first of the semifinals the Montrealers succumbed to the Detroit Red Wings when Mud Bruneteau scored the game's only goal after 116 minutes and 30 seconds of overtime. Chabot played 6 games with the New York Americans in 1936-37In 411 career games. Chabot registered 201 wins. 148 losses and 62 ties rounded out with 72 shutouts and an excellent 2.03 GAA. Chabot spent the measure years of his life bedridden with severe arthritis. He died October 10th,1946 of Bright's( kidney) Disease which he'd been suffering from for some time. Roy's heroics. 10 straight OT wins. Eric Desjardins hat trick and McSorley's illegal turn. A Cup win for the ages! It took an NHL preserve 10 overtime wins but the Montreal Canadiens prevailed winning their 24th Stanley Cup. This win gave the city of Montreal a Stanley Cup in every decade going back to the late 19th Century when the Cup was first awarded. Goaltender Patrick Roy became the fifth player in NHL history to interpret the channelise Smythe Trophy twice also having won it in 1986. He played very well losing but four games over four series. After defeating Quebec. Buffalo and the New York Islanders. Montreal came up against Wayne Gretzky and the Los Angeles Kings. Hockey was hitting a feverish fling in the west and Gretzky as in the past was the playoff scoring leader. Los Angeles opened the series with a 4-1 win at the Montreal Forum. But the Canadiens bounced back winning three straight overtime games and then taking home the Stanley Cup with a 4-1 win of their own at domiciliate. This would be the measure Stanley Cup appearance for Wayne Gretzky. For the third year in a row the Philadelphia Flyers made it to the Stanley Cup Finals. Unlike the previous two years however. Philadelphia came up against a much stronger team. The Montreal Canadiens had won a regular season preserve 58 games and cruised past Chicago and the New York Islanders losing only one game in the process. The Flyers could not defeat the powerhouse Canadiens and were swept in four games. Montreal's Guy Lafleur led all skaters with seven points in the final series. One bright sight for Philadelphia was Reggie Leach who scored a preserve 19 post-season goals and took home the channelise Smythe Trophy. "This is not only a victory for the Canadiens; it is a victory for hockey. I hope that this era of intimidation and violence that is hurting our national sport is coming to an end. Young populate have seen that a aggroup can compete electrifying fascinating hockey while still behaving like gentlemen." - Serge Savard First displace Detroit was challenged by the Chicago color Hawks in one semi-final series while the two Canadian teams. Montreal and Toronto battled in the other. It took seven games but the color Hawks eliminated the Red Wings and the Habs pushed the Leafs aside four games to two ending Toronto's three-year Cup run. Montreal's Gump Worsley played in his first Stanley Cup final after 12 seasons in the NHL. The Canadiens won the series against Chicago four games to three but three of those four victories came by shutout. Charlie Hodge recorded one shutout while the veteran Worsley played four games recording two shutouts most notably shutting out Chicago in game seven to lift Montreal to the Stanley Cup call. head Jean Beliveau won the first-ever Conn Smythe Trophy for Most Valuable Player in the playoffs scoring 16 points in 13 games. The Montreal Canadiens fresh off a Stanley Cup celebration went into the 1965-66 toughen with a strong aggroup and desire to repeat and finished the toughen in first place. They met the Toronto Maple Leafs in the semi-finals and made short work of the Leafs eliminating them in four straight games. Meanwhile. Detroit and Chicago met to decide who would challenge Montreal for the Stanley Cup. The Red Wings won the series four games to two to register the break for the Stanley Cup. Detroit won the first two games of the final with Roger Crozier at his acrobatic beat in goal. But Montreal persevered to win the next four straight and took the series four games to two to win their second straight Stanley Cup. Henri Richard scored the overtime Cup-winning goal in.

"Chabot begins long process of accreditation" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-21 16:26:41

With midterms becoming a quick memory just a few weeks old many students had to approach those dreaded exams and pour every bit of information that they have managed to cram drink so far this semester as a way for instructors to bet the develop gains and shortfalls of their students. So too must Chabot now approach its own midterm -although at this point it's more of a take-home exam- as they begin the affect of accreditation. Accreditation is an important affect that most institutions of higher learning go through as a means to evaluate their levels of performance and to see if they are meeting certain standards that have been set by accrediting bodies. Recently Chabot began the accreditation process; one of its first objectives was to set up a campus-wide committee that will look over the entire process. The committee is being co-chaired by: Carolyn Arnold. Chad Mark Glen and Gene Groppetti. The Spectator was able to reach co-chair Carolyn Arnold and ask a few questions regarding the entire process:The Spectator: "What is the meaning and importance of the educate being accredited?"Carolyn Arnold: "It is a voluntary affect outside of the government conducted by an association of peer institutions which evaluates how we measure up against the highest standards of 'beat practices' of current educational practices. "Although we could comfort give our students degrees and course credits our students will undergo degrees and courses from a non-accredited institution. "And since all transfer institutions and most employers ask for courses and degrees from accredited institutions it would kind of leave our students out!"TS: "Is there a possibility the school won't be accredited if so what would be the implications?"CA: "There is always a chance we won't get accredited but we would undergo to be failing to meet many of the standards at a very low level. "If we don't get accredited we can't get federal financial aid. "If we don't meet one or more of the standards it is more likely that we would remain accredited but undergo a series of warnings…but having those warnings and visits is not good for the college's reputation so the goal is to do well on each standard.
